Cell surface glycoprotein that plays a role in cell adhesion and tumor progression (PubMed:10910050, PubMed:11590190, PubMed:1378450, PubMed:16204051, PubMed:2022629, PubMed:2803308, PubMed:8776764). Intercellular adhesion occurs in a calcium- and fibronectin-independent manner (PubMed:16204051, PubMed:2022629). Mediates homophilic and heterophilic cell adhesion with other carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecules, such as CEACAM5 and CEACAM8 (PubMed:11590190, PubMed:16204051, PubMed:2022629, PubMed:2803308, PubMed:8776764). Heterophilic interaction with CEACAM8 occurs in activated neutrophils (PubMed:8776764). Plays a role in neutrophil adhesion to cytokine-activated endothelial cells (PubMed:1378450). Plays a role in cell migration and cell adhesion to endothelial cells (PubMed:16204051).

Human CEACAM6 ELISA kit (ab283545) is a single-wash 90 min sandwich ELISA designed for the quantitative measurement of Human CEACAM6 protein in human serum, plasma and cell culture supernatant samples. It uses our proprietary SimpleStep ELISA® technology. Quantitate Human CEACAM6 with 3.41 pg/mL sensitivity.
SimpleStep ELISA® technology employs capture antibodies conjugated to an affinity tag that is recognized by the monoclonal antibody used to coat our SimpleStep ELISA® plates. This approach to sandwich ELISA allows the formation of the antibody-analyte sandwich complex in a single step, significantly reducing assay time. See the SimpleStep ELISA® protocol summary in the image section for further details. Our SimpleStep ELISA® technology provides several benefits:
-Single-wash protocol reduces assay time to 90 minutes or less
-High sensitivity, specificity and reproducibility from superior antibodies
-Fully validated in biological samples
-96-wells plate breakable into 12 x 8 wells strips
A 384-well SimpleStep ELISA® microplate (Pre-coated 384 well Microplate SimpleStep ELISA® ab203359) is available to use as an alternative to the 96-well microplate provided with SimpleStep ELISA® kits.
CEACAM6 is a cell surface glycoprotein receptor and part of the CEA immunoglobulin superfamily. CEACAM6 is expressed in neutrophils, columnar epithelial and goblet cells, and in many tumor cell lines. It is involved in cell adhesion and tumor progression. Overexpression of CEACAM6 is seen in primary and metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and is a poor prognostic marker.
CEACAM6 also known as 9a6 CEACAM-6 and 1h7 is a cell surface glycoprotein weighing approximately 35-40 kDa. The protein plays a mechanical role as an intercellular adhesion molecule. It displays broad expression across multiple tissues with high levels found in epithelial cells of the gastrointestinal tract respiratory tract and in leukocytes.
CEACAM6 acts in cell signaling and adhesion processes. It often forms complexes with other members of the CEACAM family such as CEACAM5. This protein is involved in the regulation of cell-cell adhesion which impacts cell migration and organization. It also influences immune reactions by modulating the interactions between pathogens and host cells.
CEACAM6 integrates into pathways associated with cell adhesion and immune regulation. It engages in the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway tightly interacting with proteins such as CEACAM1 and CEACAM5. Through these interactions CEACAM6 plays an essential role in cell survival proliferation and immune responses.
CEACAM6 shows significant links with cancer especially colorectal and pancreatic cancers. Overexpression of this protein correlates with tumor progression and metastasis. Additionally in inflammatory bowel disease CEACAM6 association with CEACAM7 often results in altered epithelial barrier function contributing to disease pathogenesis.

Example of human CEACAM6 standard curve in Sample Diluent NS.
The CEACAM6 standard curve was prepared as described in Section 10. Raw data values are shown in the table. Background-subtracted data values (mean +/- SD) are graphed.
Interpolated concentrations of native CEACAM6 in human serum and plasma samples.
The concentrations of CEACAM6 were measured in duplicates, interpolated from the CEACAM6 standard curves and corrected for sample dilution. Undiluted samples are as follows: serum 1:40, plasma (citrate) 1:40, plasma (heparin) 1:40, and plasma (EDTA) 1:40. The interpolated dilution factor corrected values are plotted (mean +/- SD, n=2). The mean CEACAM6 concentration was determined to be 23.01 ng/mL in serum, 19.23 ng/mL in plasma (citrate), 20.26 ng/mL in plasma (heparin), and 22.39 ng/mL in plasma (EDTA).
Interpolated concentrations of native CEACAM6 in human PBMC cell culture supernatant samples.
The concentrations of CEACAM6 were measured in duplicates, interpolated from the CEACAM6 standard curves and corrected for sample dilution. Undiluted samples are as follows: PBMC supernatant (50%). The interpolated dilution factor corrected values are plotted (mean +/- SD, n=2). The mean CEACAM6 concentration was determined to be 265.23 pg/mL in PBMC supernatant.
Serum from ten individual healthy human female donors was measured in duplicate.
Interpolated dilution factor corrected values are plotted (mean +/- SD, n=2). The mean CEACAM6 concentration was determined to be 28.02 ng/mL with a range of 14.38 – 54.91 ng/mL.
