Human FGF16 ELISA kit is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of human FGF16 in serum, plasma and cell culture supernatants. This assay employs an antibody specific for human FGF16 coated on a 96-well plate.
Fibroblast Growth Factor 16 (FGF16) also known as FGF-16 is a protein belonging to the fibroblast growth factor family. It weighs approximately 27 kDa. FGF16 participates in cellular activities like proliferation and differentiation by binding to fibroblast growth factor receptors. Its expression appears primarily in the heart and skeletal muscles though it may also occur in other tissues under specific conditions.
FGF16 plays a significant role in tissue repair and development. It does not function alone; rather it acts as part of a signaling complex involving fibroblast growth factor receptors. This interaction is important for cardiac muscle development suggesting its importance in maintaining heart health. Furthermore FGF16 supports the healing processes in damaged muscle tissue contributing to tissue homeostasis.
FGF16 is active in both the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway and the MAPK signaling pathway. These pathways manage processes associated with cell survival growth and division. In these pathways FGF16 interacts with proteins like Akt (protein kinase B) and ERK (extracellular signal-regulated kinase) indicating its involvement in the regulation of cell cycle and cellular responses to external stimuli.
FGF16 is linked to cardiac hypertrophy and skeletal muscle-related conditions. Altered FGF16 expression can exacerbate heart muscle enlargement often leading to heart failure. ABI1 another protein associates with FGF16 in cellular signaling affected by these conditions. Moreover any disruption in FGF16's role in skeletal muscle repair may contribute to muscular dystrophies suggesting a potential target for therapeutic intervention.
