Biological function summary
CXCL2 contributes to immune defense and tissue repair processes. The protein acts as a signaling molecule promoting migration and activation of immune cells to sites of inflammation. As part of the CXC chemokine family CXCL2 shares structural similarities with other chemokines but it does not form complexes. The molecule plays a role in mediating responses to environmental stimuli and participates in both innate and adaptive immunity.
Pathways
CXCL2 operates within pivotal chemokine signaling cascades and the inflammatory response. It is involved in the chemokine signaling pathway assisting in directing leukocytes to inflammatory sites. Related proteins like CXCL1 and CXCL8 often work alongside CXCL2 in coordinating immune responses. Furthermore CXCL2 activation can impact the NF-κB pathway a critical player in inflammation and immune response regulation integrating signals from various stress and inflammation contexts.
