Supplementary information

CXCL2 also known as GRO gamma or GRO alpha is a small cytokine protein with a mass of approximately 7.9 kDa. It functions mechanically by binding to specific receptors on the surface of target cells playing important roles in immune response regulation and inflammation. The protein is expressed in various cell types including macrophages fibroblasts and epithelial cells. This factor is important for mediating chemotaxis stimulating leukocytes and acting as a potent chemoattractant for neutrophils.
Biological function summary

CXCL2 contributes to immune defense and tissue repair processes. The protein acts as a signaling molecule promoting migration and activation of immune cells to sites of inflammation. As part of the CXC chemokine family CXCL2 shares structural similarities with other chemokines but it does not form complexes. The molecule plays a role in mediating responses to environmental stimuli and participates in both innate and adaptive immunity.

Pathways

CXCL2 operates within pivotal chemokine signaling cascades and the inflammatory response. It is involved in the chemokine signaling pathway assisting in directing leukocytes to inflammatory sites. Related proteins like CXCL1 and CXCL8 often work alongside CXCL2 in coordinating immune responses. Furthermore CXCL2 activation can impact the NF-κB pathway a critical player in inflammation and immune response regulation integrating signals from various stress and inflammation contexts.

CXCL2 has associations with conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and asthma. Elevated levels of this chemokine are often observed in inflamed joints of arthritis patients where it contributes to the recruitment of inflammatory cells exacerbating tissue damage. Additionally in asthma CXCL2 interacts with interleukin-6 contributing to airway inflammation and hyperreactivity. These interactions underline the chemokine’s role in chronic inflammatory disorders making it a possible target for therapeutic interventions.

Product protocols

Target data

Has chemotactic activity for neutrophils. May play a role in inflammation and exerts its effects on endothelial cells in an autocrine fashion. In vitro, the processed forms GRO-alpha(4-73), GRO-alpha(5-73) and GRO-alpha(6-73) show a 30-fold higher chemotactic activity.
