Human HSD1 (also known as HSD17B1) ELISA kit is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of human HSD1 in serum, plasma and cell culture supernatants. This assay employs an antibody specific for human HSD1 coated on a 96-well plate.
This ELISA kit shows no cross-reactivity with the following cytokines tested: human ADAMTSL-1/Punctin-1, AMSH/STAMBP, Annexin V, BATF3, Bora, Cadherin-17, Caveolin-2, CD2, CD200 R1, CHST3, COMT, Cystatin SA, Dopamine beta-Hydroxylase, Desmin, Exostosin-like 3, Ficolin-1, FosB/GOS3, FRS2, GATA-5, GFAP, GLI-3, HepaCAM, ARNT/HIF1 beta, IDO, Kallikrein 1, Kell, MDL-1/CLEC5A, NPDC-1, Numb, Olig2, p63/TP73L, Pax3, Semaphorin 4D, Sphingosine Kinase 1/SPHK1, TAZ/WWTR1, TC-PTP, Transglutaminase 3/TGM3, TPST2, TREML1/TLT-1.
Hsd17b11 influences steroidal balance by regulating the levels of active and inactive steroid hormones. It is sometimes associated with lipid metabolism processes but remains independent not a part of any known enzymatic complex. By controlling hormone levels Hsd17b11 impacts cellular functions related to metabolism growth and reproduction reinforcing its importance in maintaining proper physiological conditions.
Hsd17b11 also known as type 11 17-beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase is an enzyme that plays a role in steroid metabolism by catalyzing the conversion of less active 17-keto steroids to more active 17-beta-hydroxy steroids. The dehydrogenase weighs approximately 34 kDa and is found in various tissues but it is highly expressed in the liver and other steroidogenic tissues. As an NAD(P)-dependent oxidoreductase it contributes to maintaining steroid homeostasis within the cellular environment.
Hsd17b11 participates in steroid hormone metabolism and has roles within the broader steroidogenic pathway. It is related to the regulation of sex steroids closely working with enzymes like Hsd17b3 and Hsd17b2 which also modulate steroid hormones. These interactions contribute to comprehensive steroid biosynthesis and degradation pathways forming a network critical for endocrine system health.
Several studies have linked Hsd17b11 to disorders of steroid metabolism including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and some liver dysfunctions. Changes in its activity can affect steroid hormone levels perturbed in PCOS which often associates with aberrant androgen production. In metabolic liver disorders altered Hsd17b11 activity may disrupt lipid metabolism. The enzyme may also interact indirectly with proteins like SHBG (sex hormone-binding globulin) in these contexts influencing disease pathology and presentation.
