Product details
Abcam's IL-7 Human in vitro ELISA Set is designed for the quantitative measurement of IL-7 in cell culture supernatants, buffered solutions, serum, plasma and other body fluids.
This ELISA Set is intended to measure human IL-7 in cell -culture supernatants, as well as in serum and plasma samples. The enclosed procedures provide general guidelines for ELISA preparation. This procedure may need some optimization depending on the plastic, matrix, standard range.
These reagents are intended for research use only, not for diagnostic purposes.
The IL-7 ELISA Set includes both the capture and the detection antibodies as well as Horse-Radish peroxidase conjugated Streptavidin (HRP-Strep) and TMB which are the reagents used in the colour development step.
Recognizes both natural and recombinant human IL-7.

Biological function summary
IL7 is essential for the survival and proliferation of lymphoid cells. It acts on both T cells and B cells critical components of the adaptive immune system. The protein supports the survival of naïve and memory T cells playing a significant role in T cell homeostasis. IL7 does not operate as part of a large complex but interacts directly with its receptor to exert its function. Through its influence on T and B cell proliferation the cytokine sustains lymphoid system functionality and integrity.
Pathways
IL7 plays a pivotal role in the JAK/STAT signaling pathway which is central to cellular responses to cytokines. When IL7 binds to its receptor JAK kinases activate and promote the phosphorylation of STAT5 leading to gene transcription necessary for cell survival and proliferation. Another important pathway is the PI3K/AKT signaling cascade where the cytokine supports cell survival through anti-apoptotic signals. Through these pathways IL7 is interconnected with other cytokines such as IL2 that also function through shared or similar signaling cascades contributing to immune homeostasis.
