Product details

Abcam's anti-Leishmania IgG Human in vitro ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is designed for the accurate qualitative measurement of IgG class antibodies against Leishmania in Human serum and plasma.

A 96-well plate has been precoated with Leishmania antigens to bind cognate antibodies. Controls or test samples are added to the wells and incubated. Following washing, a horseradish peroxidase (HRP) labelled anti-Human IgG conjugate is added to the wells, which binds to the immobilized Leishmania-specific antibodies. TMB is then catalyzed by the HRP to produce a blue color product that changes to yellow after adding an acidic stop solution. The density of yellow coloration is directly proportional to the amount of Leishmania IgG sample captured in plate.

Supplementary information

Leishmania infantum IgG also known as L. infantum immunoglobulin G is an antibody produced in response to infection by the protozoan parasite Leishmania infantum. This target has a mass of approximately 150 kDa which is typical for a complete IgG molecule. It is predominantly expressed in the blood and tissues of infected hosts. As IgG molecules they play an essential role in the immune response marking the pathogen for destruction by other immune cells.
Biological function summary

The immune system recognizes Leishmania infantum IgG as a marker of infection enabling better targeting by phagocytic cells. These IgG molecules are not part of a larger protein complex but act individually to bind to antigens on the surface of the parasite. Their presence signals the immune system to eliminate the parasite through opsonization and activation of the complement pathway critically aiding in the host's defense mechanisms.

Pathways

Antibodies like Leishmania infantum IgG participate heavily in both the humoral immune response and the classical complement pathway. In these pathways they act to neutralize pathogens and facilitate their clearance from the body. During this immune response other proteins like complement component 3 (C3) and Fc receptors on phagocytes work in conjunction with IgG antibodies to enhance pathogen elimination.

Leishmania infantum IgG is an important biomarker for visceral leishmaniasis also known as kala-azar which is a severe parasitic disease. This antibody response helps diagnose and monitor the disease progression. Additionally the presence of IgG against L. infantum might indicate past or subclinical infections. In the context of leishmaniasis related proteins such as T cell receptors also interact significantly as part of the cellular immunity contributing to the control of the infection.
