Product details

Human OMD ELISA Kit (ab277442) is an in-vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of Human OMD in serum (human OMD concentration is low in normal serum/plasma, and may not be detectable in this assay), plasma (Collect plasma using heparin as an anticoagulant. EDTA and Citrate are not recommended as anticoagulants for use in this assay) and cell culture supernatants.

This assay employs an antibody specific for Human OMD coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and Human OMD present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed, and biotinylated anti-Human OMD antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human OMD bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.

Osteomodulin (OMD) also referred to as osteoadherin is a small leucine-rich proteoglycan with a molecular weight of approximately 48 kDa. This protein plays a significant role in bone biology and is primarily expressed in mineralized tissues such as osteoblasts and dentin. OMD contains multiple leucine-rich repeats that facilitate its interaction with collagen fibrils suggesting a role in the regulation of collagen assembly and matrix organization.
Biological function summary

The functions of osteomodulin contribute to maintaining bone structure and integrity. It binds to type I collagen and assists in organizing the extracellular matrix in bone tissue. OMD is not part of a larger protein complex but acts individually to stabilize the mineralized matrix.
