Human SMOC2 ELISA kit is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of human SMOC2 in serum, plasma and cell culture supernatants. This assay employs an antibody specific for human SMOC2 coated on a 96-well plate.
SMOC2 also known as SPARC-related modular calcium-binding protein 2 functions mechanically as an extracellular matrix-associated protein. It weighs approximately 48 kDa. SMOC2 shows expression mainly in tissues like bone skin and blood vessels where it contributes to cellular processes through its interaction with other matrix components. This protein contains multiple functional domains that allow it to bind calcium ions and interact with various molecules within the extracellular matrix.
SMOC2 influences several processes related to tissue development and remodeling. It is involved in angiogenesis and cell proliferation impacting cellular communication through the matrix. SMOC2 does not usually form part of any large structural complexes but interacts with extracellular matrix proteins such as collagen and fibronectin to modulate their effects on cell behavior. It can regulate interactions between cells and their surrounding environment thereby contributing to maintaining tissue homeostasis.
SMOC2 participates in the TGF-beta signaling pathway and the integrin-mediated signaling pathway. In the TGF-beta signaling pathway SMOC2 affects the regulation of growth and differentiation in various cell types. It interacts with proteins such as TGF-beta and related receptors influencing their activity and downstream effects. While involved in integrin pathways SMOC2 further affects cell adhesion and migration by engaging with integrin receptors thereby playing a role in modulating cellular responses to environmental changes.
SMOC2 has associations with cancer progression and fibrosis. Abnormal SMOC2 expression can promote tumor growth as seen in some types of cancer due to its role in cell proliferation and angiogenesis. In the context of fibrosis SMOC2 might exacerbate tissue scarring processes by influencing extracellular matrix remodeling. SMOC2 also shows a connection with proteins like TGF-beta in these diseases highlighting its involvement in modifying pathological states through these signaling pathways.
