Product details

Abcam's anti-Toxocara canis IgG Human in vitro ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is designed for the accurate qualitative measurement of IgG class antibodies against Toxocara canis in Human serum and plasma.

A 96-well plate has been precoated with Toxocara canis antigens to bind cognate antibodies. Controls or test samples are added to the wells and incubated. Following washing, a horseradish peroxidase (HRP) labelled Protein A conjugate is added to the wells, which binds to the immobilized Toxocara canis-specific antibodies. TMB is then catalyzed by the HRP to produce a blue color product that changes to yellow after adding an acidic stop solution. The density of yellow coloration is directly proportional to the amount of Toxocara canis IgG sample captured in plate.

Toxocara canis IgG is a host antibody developed in response to infection by the parasitic roundworm Toxocara canis often involved in the disease toxocariasis. When a host typically a canine or human becomes infected the immune system produces Toxocara canis IgG to target and neutralize the parasite. This antibody is a specific immunoglobulin type G and its presence indicates exposure to the Toxocara parasite. The mass of IgG antibodies typically ranges around 150 kDa. In humans expression of anti-Toxocara canis IgG can be detected in serum following infection.
Biological function summary

The production of anti-Toxocara canis IgG forms part of the immune response against larval migration and tissue invasion by Toxocara canis. The IgG antibodies can tag the parasites marking them for attack by other immune cells and components. This antibody response is not known to belong to a larger complex but functions as an essential element of the host's defense against parasitic infection. The detection of anti-Toxocara IgG can also aid in serological diagnosis of ongoing or past Toxocara infection in patients.

Pathways

The production of anti-Toxocara canis IgG involves the adaptive immune response. This pathway includes various immune cells like B cells which differentiate into plasma cells to produce these antibodies. The IgG binding to Toxocara antigens further facilitates opsonization enhancing phagocytosis by macrophages and neutrophils. Related proteins in these pathways include the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules that present Toxocara antigens to helper T cells driving B cell activation and IgG production.

Anti-Toxocara canis IgG is closely linked with toxocariasis a parasitic zoonosis affecting both domestic animals and humans. This condition manifests in forms such as visceral larva migrans and ocular larva migrans depending on which tissues the larvae invade. The presence of these IgG antibodies aids in diagnosing the condition although not in distinguishing between active and past infections. Researchers have also studied the IgG response in connection with other immune-related disorders influenced by past parasitic infections examining its potential role or contribution to immune modulation in affected individuals.
