Product details

The Porcine VEGF-A ELISA kit (ab218298) is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the quantitative measurement of Porcine VEGF-A in serum (Porcine VEGF-A concentration is low in normal serum and plasma samples and may not be detectable in this assay), plasma and cell culture supernatants.

This assay employs an antibody specific for VEGF-A coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and VEGF-A present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-Porcine VEGF-A antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of VEGF-A bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is Measured at 450 nm.

VEGF 164 also known as Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor 164 plays an important role in angiogenesis and vascular permeability. A member of the VEGF family it serves as a signal protein that promotes the growth of new blood vessels. Vegf 164 is expressed in various tissues and is specially important in the response to ischemic events and tissue remodeling. The molecular mass of VEGF 164 is approximately 45 kDa making it a protein of moderate size within its family.
Biological function summary

VEGF 164 is essential in cellular processes related to vascular growth and blood vessel formation. It is involved in endothelial cell proliferation migration and survival necessary steps for new blood vessel formation. The protein often functions as part of a larger complex that includes co-receptors like neuropilins enhancing its activity and specificity in various tissues. Overall its role is significant in maintaining the structural integrity of the vasculature.

Pathways

VEGF 164 is integrated into angiogenesis and wound healing pathways. It activates several signaling cascades including the PI3K/Akt and MAPK pathways which further involve related proteins like Akt1 and MAPK1. By mediating these pathways VEGF 164 ensures adequate nutrient and oxygen supply to growing tissues or responding to injury.

VEGF 164 has strong associations with cancer and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). In cancer it contributes to tumor growth and metastasis by aiding in the construction of new blood vessels that supply tumor cells. In AMD VEGF 164 levels can increase leading to abnormal blood vessel growth in the eye damaging vision. The protein interacts with similar function proteins like VEGF receptor 2 which is important in same pathological conditions.

Target data

Growth factor active in angiogenesis, vasculogenesis and endothelial cell growth. Induces endothelial cell proliferation, promotes cell migration, inhibits apoptosis and induces permeabilization of blood vessels. Binds to the FLT1/VEGFR1 and KDR/VEGFR2 receptors, heparan sulfate and heparin (By similarity). Binding to NRP1 receptor initiates a signaling pathway needed for motor neuron axon guidance and cell body migration, including for the caudal migration of facial motor neurons from rhombomere 4 to rhombomere 6 during embryonic development (By similarity). Also binds the DEAR/FBXW7-AS1 receptor (By similarity).
