Sandwich ELISA - Rat GSTA1 ELISA Kit (AB254508)
Interpolated concentrations of native GSTA1 in rat cell culture supernatant samples.
The concentrations of GSTA1 were measured in duplicates, interpolated from the GSTA1 standard curves and corrected for sample dilution. Undiluted samples are as follows : liver supernatant 1 : 13,000. The interpolated dilution factor corrected values are plotted (mean +/- SD, n=2). The mean GSTA1 concentration was determined to be 271 μg/mL in liver supernatant.

Product details
Rat GSTA1 ELISA Kit (ab254508) is a single-wash 90 min sandwich ELISA designed for the quantitative measurement of GSTA1 protein in cell culture supernatant. It uses our proprietary SimpleStep ELISA® technology. Quantitate Rat GSTA1 with 0.35 ng/ml sensitivity.
SimpleStep ELISA® technology employs capture antibodies conjugated to an affinity tag that is recognized by the monoclonal antibody used to coat our SimpleStep ELISA® plates. This approach to sandwich ELISA allows the formation of the antibody-analyte sandwich complex in a single step, significantly reducing assay time. See the SimpleStep ELISA® protocol summary in the image section for further details. Our SimpleStep ELISA® technology provides several benefits:
- Single-wash protocol reduces assay time to 90 minutes or less
- High sensitivity, specificity and reproducibility from superior antibodies
- Fully validated in biological samples
- 96-wells plate breakable into 12 x 8 wells strips
A 384-well SimpleStep ELISA® microplate (ab203359) is available to use as an alternative to the 96-well microplate provided with SimpleStep ELISA® kits.
Glutathione S-transferase alpha-1 (GSTA1) is an enzyme in the GST family and is encoded by the GSTA1 gene. GSTA1s main role is the detoxification of electrophilic compounds, including carcinogens, drugs, environmental toxins, and by-products on environmental stress by conjugation with reduced glutathione. The alpha series of enzymes for GSH are activated in the liver. Rat GSTA1 shares a 96% sequence identify with GSTA2, and 94.6% with mouse GSTA1.

Biological function summary
The GSTA1 protein contributes significantly to the neutralization of oxidative stress by detoxifying harmful compounds. This enzyme shows a high affinity for certain substrates and serves as a detoxifying agent particularly in the liver safeguarding cells from oxidative damage. GSTA1 exists mostly as a homodimer but can also form heterodimers with other related enzymes enhancing its substrate range and activity.
Pathways
GSTA1 plays a role in metabolic and detoxification pathways essential for cellular protection. It is an important player in the glutathione metabolism pathway where it collaborates with other enzymes like GSTM1 to facilitate detoxification processes. Additionally GSTA1 participates in the pathways leading to the synthesis of mercapturic acids which are important for the excretion of toxic metabolites.
