Interpolated concentrations of spiked IL-5 in rat serum and plasma samples.

The concentrations of IL-5 were measured in duplicates, interpolated from the IL-5 standard curves and corrected for sample dilution. Undiluted samples are as follows : serum 50%, plasma (citrate) 50%, plasma (heparin) 50%, and plasma (EDTA) 50%. The interpolated dilution factor corrected values are plotted (mean +/- SD, n=2).

Rat IL-5 ELISA Kit (ab267811) is a single-wash 90 min sandwich ELISA designed for the quantitative measurement of IL-5 protein in edta plasma, hep plasma, serum, and cit plasma. It uses our proprietary SimpleStep ELISA® technology. Quantitate Rat IL-5 with 1.38 pg/ml sensitivity.

SimpleStep ELISA® technology employs capture antibodies conjugated to an affinity tag that is recognized by the monoclonal antibody used to coat our SimpleStep ELISA® plates. This approach to sandwich ELISA allows the formation of the antibody-analyte sandwich complex in a single step, significantly reducing assay time. See the SimpleStep ELISA® protocol summary in the image section for further details. Our SimpleStep ELISA® technology provides several benefits:

- Single-wash protocol reduces assay time to 90 minutes or less

Interleukin 5 (IL-5) is a small, 113 amino acid cytokine produced by T cells involved in the differentiation of B-cells to immunoglobulin secreting cells. IL-5 is a key mediator in the survival and effector functions of mature eosinophils. Due to its effects on eosinophils, IL-5 is implicated in the pathogenesis of asthma and other hypereosinophilic inflammatory conditions.

Target data

Homodimeric cytokine expressed predominantly by T-lymphocytes and NK cells that plays an important role in the survival, differentiation, and chemotaxis of eosinophils (PubMed : 10446387). Acts also on activated and resting B-cells to induce immunoglobulin production, growth, and differentiation (By similarity). Mechanistically, exerts its biological effects through a receptor composed of IL5RA subunit and the cytokine receptor common subunit beta/CSF2RB. Binding to the receptor leads to activation of various kinases including LYN, SYK and JAK2 and thereby propagates signals through the RAS-MAPK and JAK-STAT5 pathways respectively (By similarity).
