Phosphatidylserine receptor that plays an important functional role in regulatory B-cells homeostasis including generation, expansion and suppressor functions (By similarity). As P-selectin/SELPLG ligand, plays a specialized role in activated but not naive T-cell trafficking during inflammatory responses. Controls thereby T-cell accumulation in the inflamed central nervous system (CNS) and the induction of autoimmune disease (By similarity). Regulates also expression of various anti-inflammatory cytokines and co-inhibitory ligands including IL10. Acts as a regulator of T-cell proliferation (By similarity). May play a role in kidney injury and repair (By similarity).

Rat KIM-1 ELISA Kit (ab223858) is a single-wash 90 min sandwich ELISA designed for the quantitative measurement of KIM-1 protein in cit plasma, edta plasma, hep plasma, serum, and urine. It uses our proprietary SimpleStep ELISA® technology. Quantitate Rat KIM-1 with 2.33 pg/ml sensitivity.
SimpleStep ELISA® technology employs capture antibodies conjugated to an affinity tag that is recognized by the monoclonal antibody used to coat our SimpleStep ELISA® plates. This approach to sandwich ELISA allows the formation of the antibody-analyte sandwich complex in a single step, significantly reducing assay time. See the SimpleStep ELISA® protocol summary in the image section for further details. Our SimpleStep ELISA® technology provides several benefits:
- Single-wash protocol reduces assay time to 90 minutes or less
- High sensitivity, specificity and reproducibility from superior antibodies
- Fully validated in biological samples
- 96-wells plate breakable into 12 x 8 wells strips
A 384-well SimpleStep ELISA® microplate (Pre-coated 384 well Microplate SimpleStep ELISA® ab203359) is available to use as an alternative to the 96-well microplate provided with SimpleStep ELISA® kits.
KIM-1, also known as Kidney Injury Molecule 1 and Hepatitis A virus cellular receptor 1 homolog (HAVcr-1), or T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain 1 (TIM-1) is a 283- amino acid protein that contains an N-terminal immunoglobulin-like domain and is encoded by the HAVCR1 gene. KIM-1 is a single-pass type 1 membrane protein has been identified as a receptor for hepatitis A virus. The TIM gene family participates in host immune response. Urinary KIM-1 levels are elevated in nephropathy and is thought to be a biomarker for renal damage.
TIM 1 also known as T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain 1 is a cell surface protein with a molecular mass of approximately 70 to 80 kDa. It is expressed predominantly in activated T cells and some epithelial cells. TIM 1 plays an important role in immune regulation and can be found at the surface of cells in various tissues including the liver and kidney. This protein can interact with other components which can influence immune response in the host.
The TIM 1 protein functions as a receptor involved in T cell activity modulation and innate immune response regulation. It is known to bind phosphatidylserine on apoptotic cells which fosters communication between dying cells and phagocytes. TIM 1 does not typically exist as part of a larger complex but its interactions with other molecules is important for its role in the immune system. The protein’s activity influences cytokine production and this can affect inflammation processes.
TIM 1 is involved in key immune response pathways like the signaling pathways of T cells and the broader adaptive immune response. This protein has been linked with the enhancement of Th2 cytokine production impacting allergic response signaling. It interacts with related proteins like TIM 3 and TIM 4 which together contribute to the fine-tuning of immune responses. Understanding TIM 1 within these pathways helps in grasping its regulatory potential in T-cell mediated immunity.
TIM 1 is implicated in conditions such as asthma and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). In asthma improperly regulated Th2 immune responses involve TIM 1 which can exacerbate allergic inflammations. This protein also plays a role in the pathogenesis of SLE a systemic autoimmune disease where TIM 1's regulation of immune tolerance and inflammation is critical. TIM 1’s involvement with other proteins like IL-4 and IL-13 in these disorders further highlights its significance in immune dysregulation processes.

Rat KIM-1 standard curve comparison data.
Standard curve comparison between rat KIM-1 SimpleStep ELISA® kit and traditional ELISA kit from leading competitor. SimpleStep ELISA kit shows comparable sensitivity.
Example of Rat KIM-1 standard curve in Sample Diluent NS.
Background-subtracted data values (mean +/- SD) are graphed.
Interpolated concentrations of native KIM-1 in Rat serum, plasma, and urine samples.
The concentrations of KIM-1 were measured in duplicates, interpolated from the KIM-1 standard curves and corrected for sample dilution. Undiluted samples are as follows: serum 25%, plasma (citrate) 25%, plasma (EDTA) 25%, plasma (heparin) 12.5%, and urine 25%. The interpolated dilution factor corrected values are plotted (mean +/- SD, n=2). The mean KIM-1 concentration was determined to be 1,435 pg/mL in serum, 1,332 pg/mL in plasma (citrate), 1,444 pg/mL in plasma (EDTA), 1,726 pg/mL in plasma (heparin), and 2,005 pg/mL in urine.
Interpolated concentrations of spiked KIM-1 in cell culture supernatant samples.
The concentrations of KIM-1 were measured in duplicate and interpolated from the KIM-1 standard curve and corrected for sample dilution. Undiluted samples are as follows: RPMI media 50%. The interpolated dilution factor corrected values are plotted (mean +/- SD, n=2).
