Supplementary information

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.

ADAM9 also known as Meltrin gamma is a member of the ADAM (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase) family characterized by both proteolytic and adhesive properties. The ADAM9 protein weighs approximately 84 kDa and is expressed in various tissues including the brain throat and lungs. It plays an important role in cellular processes such as cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions due to its disintegrin domain.
Biological function summary

ADAM9 participates in numerous essential cellular functions particularly in cell surface protein shedding and proteolytic activities. It is part of the protease complex involved in shedding epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) ligands. This action impacts cell signaling pathways that contribute to processes such as cell proliferation migration and invasion.

Pathways

Many studies link ADAM9 to pathways involving cell signal modulation and extracellular matrix remodeling. It participates in the EGFR signaling pathway significantly affecting cell behavior. ADAM9 interacts with other proteins such as integrins which facilitate changes in cell dynamics and communication.

Evidence implicates ADAM9 in several cancers including breast cancer and prostate cancer. It plays a role in cancer development by promoting cell invasion and metastasis. ADAM9 is also associated with Alzheimer's disease through interactions with proteins like APP (amyloid precursor protein) suggesting its involvement in neuronal degradation and plaque formation.

Target data

Metalloprotease that cleaves and releases a number of molecules with important roles in tumorigenesis and angiogenesis, such as TEK, KDR, EPHB4, CD40, VCAM1 and CDH5. May mediate cell-cell, cell-matrix interactions and regulate the motility of cells via interactions with integrins.. Isoform 2. May act as alpha-secretase for amyloid precursor protein (APP).
