Supplementary information

ADAMTS16 also known as A Disintegrin And Metalloproteinase with Thrombospondin motifs 16 is a protease enzyme that plays a role in extracellular matrix regulation. It belongs to the family of ADAMTS proteins and has a molecular mass of approximately 170 kDa. This protein is expressed in various tissues including the kidney brain and testis. Its mechanical role involves processing extracellular matrix components such as proteoglycans.
Biological function summary

ADAMTS16 affects the remodeling of the extracellular matrix through its enzymatic activity. It participates in modulating cell signaling and tissue architecture essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis. Although it is not typically part of a large complex ADAMTS16 interacts with matrix substrates indicating its involvement in matrix composition and regulation of matrix-dependent cellular processes.

Pathways

Physiological functions of ADAMTS16 align with the matrix metalloproteinase pathway and the Wnt signaling pathway. Within these pathways ADAMTS16 influences tissue remodeling and developmental processes. It shares a relationship with other proteins such as ADAMTS1 and ADAMTS4 highlighting its role in coordinating extracellular matrix interactions.

ADAMTS16 has associations with hypertension and certain reproductive disorders. Alterations in its function can impact blood pressure regulation due to its effects on the vascular extracellular matrix. It also relates to reproductive conditions with a connection to ADAMTS9 which can impact fertilization processes and other reproductive events.
