Activity summary

The AE2 protein also known as solute carrier family 4 member 2 (SLC4A2) functions as an anion exchanger. It plays an important role in transporting chloride and bicarbonate across the cell membrane. AE2 typically weighs around 150 kDa. This protein is expressed in various tissues with notable expression patterns in liver kidney and gastric tissues. AE2 also localizes in the apical membrane of epithelial cells and plays a critical role in pH regulation and electrolyte balance.

Biological function summary

AE2 is essential for maintaining the acid-base balance within cells. It functions not just on its own but also as part of larger protein complexes that interact with cytoskeletal and signaling proteins. Given its role in pH regulation AE2 has significant implications in cellular homeostasis and signal transduction. Western blot was performed from the immunoprecipitate using ab226829 at 1 μg/ml.
