Agmatine is a biological molecule derived from the amino acid arginine often referred to as decarboxylated arginine. It has a molecular mass of approximately 130.19 g/mol. Agmatine is found widely in various tissues with a high expression in the brain and other vital organs. Notably it is distributed in neurons where it modulates multiple physiological functions. Agmatine also appears endogenously in the human body and it can be detected in trace amounts.
Biological function summary
