Supplementary info

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.
Activity summary

AHNAK2 short for "AHNAK nucleoprotein 2" is a large ubiquitously expressed protein with a molecular mass of approximately 600 kDa. Scientists have identified it in various tissues with high levels in the heart lungs and skin. This protein belongs to the family of nucleoproteins which suggests its involvement in cellular structural functions. AHNAK2 is known to play a role in structural integrity as it interacts with components of the cytoskeleton and cell membrane.

Biological function summary

AHNAK2 influences the cellular processes of migration and proliferation. It interacts with members of the actin cytoskeleton and certain signaling pathways. AHNAK2 does not form part of a well-defined complex but shows associations with signaling molecules that manage cell shape and motility. Its interactions indicate a potential regulatory function in rearranging cytoskeletal structures which facilitates various dynamic cellular processes.

Pathways

AHNAK2 participates in the TGF-beta signaling pathway and the MAPK/ERK pathway. It strengthens these pathways especially by modulating cellular responses to external stimuli. The protein also associates with other signaling molecules like SMAD proteins in TGF-beta pathway contributing to the regulation of gene expression cell growth and development. AHNAK2’s involvement in this network indicates its role in turning extracellular information into intracellular actions.

Associated diseases and disorders

Researchers have linked AHNAK2 to forms of cancer especially lung and pancreatic cancer. Elevated levels of AHNAK2 may relate to tumor progression and metastasis. Additional studies associate it with proteins like KRAS involved in signal transduction which suggests AHNAK2 might encourage oncogenic pathways that drive cancer development. Understanding AHNAK2 functions and interactions could lead to new insights into therapeutic strategies.
