Biological function summary
ALG3 functions as an important player in the N-glycosylation pathway. It acts as part of an essential enzymatic complex that modifies the lipid-linked oligosaccharide. This modification is necessary for protein maturation and stability as glycosylation is a post-translational modification influencing protein folding and stability. Dysfunction in this process can result in incorrect protein folding leading to cellular stress or dysfunction.
Pathways
ALG3 integrates into the N-glycan biosynthesis pathway a vital cellular process. This pathway involves a series of enzymatic steps important for generating glycoproteins. ALG3 interacts directly with other glycosyltransferases such as ALG1 and ALG2 as part of this biosynthetic pathway. Cooperation among these enzymes ensures the correct assembly and elongation of glycan structures which are important for a variety of cellular functions.
