Biological function summary
Alpha SNAP works as a part of the SNARE complex. It acts as a mediator that helps recycle SNARE proteins which are key components in vesicle fusion processes. The protein binds to the SNARE complex allowing NSF (N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor) to disassemble it enabling the components to be reused. This recycling is critical for continuous vesicular transport aiding in the maintenance of cellular function.
Pathways
Alpha SNAP functions mainly in the vesicular transport and membrane trafficking pathways. It interacts with NSF and other SNARE proteins to facilitate these processes. Within the cellular transport pathway Alpha SNAP ensures efficient neurotransmitter release and hormone secretion.
