Supplementary information

Ankrd26 also known as Ankyrin Repeat Domain 26 is a protein encoded by the ANKRD26 gene. It has a molecular mass of roughly 216 kDa. Ankrd26 is widely expressed in various tissues with prominent presence in hematopoietic tissues and the central nervous system. Its mechanical function involves interactions with other proteins through its ankyrin repeat domains enabling it to play a role in cellular structural and regulatory processes.
Biological function summary

Ankrd26 acts as a regulatory element involved in signaling pathways that control cell development and proliferation. It is part of protein complexes that regulate cytoskeletal organization impacting cell shape and mobility. This protein has important roles in hematopoietic stem cell function and differentiation influencing the generation of blood cell lineages. Ankrd26's ability to interact with various cellular partners suggests its involvement in broader biological mechanisms.

Pathways

Ankrd26 is implicated in the JAK-STAT signaling pathway and the PI3K-Akt pathway. These pathways oversee cell growth survival and differentiation highlighting Ankrd26's important regulatory nature. Ankrd26 interacts with proteins such as JAK2 and Akt emphasizing its integration into these cellular pathways. This crosstalk allows Ankrd26 to modulate cellular responses to various external signals and maintain cellular homeostasis.

Ankrd26 has associations with thrombocytopenia and certain cancers. Thrombocytopenia relates to mutations in the ANKRD26 gene that impair normal hematopoietic cell function affecting blood platelet levels. Additionally altered expression or mutation of Ankrd26 can contribute to oncogenesis linking it to cancer pathways. Interactions between Ankrd26 and proteins like JAK2 in these contexts underline the importance of this protein in maintaining health and its potential role in disease.
