Supplementary information

The ASFV p54 also known as pEP153R is a structural protein of African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV) with a mass of approximately 25 kDa. It is expressed on the surface of the virus functioning as an important component for the virus life cycle. ASFV p54 protein plays a central role in virus attachment and entry into the host cells. It interacts with specific host receptors facilitating the fusion of the virus with cellular membranes and allowing viral particles to enter the host cell cytoplasm.
Biological function summary

ASFV p54 contributes to viral replication and assembly within the infected host cells. It does not function alone but is part of a larger protein complex that includes several other viral proteins. This complex is important for the architecture and stability of the viral envelope ensuring that newly synthesized viral particles are properly formed and can efficiently infect other cells.

Pathways

ASFV p54 plays an important part in pathways related to viral invasion and immune evasion. It is involved in interactions that help suppress host immune responses granting the virus an advantage in persisting within the host. The functions of ASFV p54 are closely tied to those of other structural proteins like p30 which also participate in the processes of viral adhesion and immune system modulation.

ASFV p54 is directly associated with African Swine Fever a devastating disease affecting domestic and wild pigs. The function of ASFV p54 makes it a target of interest in understanding the mechanisms of ASFV pathogenesis. This protein interacts with viral components such as the B646L (p72) protein which is implicated in virulence and the disease severity. Targeting ASFV p54 through research or vaccine development may help control the spread of this highly contagious disease in swine populations.
