ATRNL1 also known as Attractin-like 1 is a protein involved in cell signaling and communication. The protein weighs approximately 151 kDa. It is expressed in several tissues including the central nervous system and some peripheral tissues. ATRNL1 is part of a family of proteins that include Attractin and shares structural similarities with proteins involved in neuroendocrine functions.
Biological function summary

ATRNL1 plays a role in cell growth and differentiation influencing neural development. It does not seem to form part of a known protein complex but influences signaling pathways critical for neurodevelopment. Researchers have shown interest in its function in brain regions where neurogenesis and neuron differentiation occur.

Pathways

ATRNL1 is involved in the neurotrophin signaling pathway critical for neuronal survival and differentiation. It shares connections with neurotrophic proteins like NGF and BDNF in these pathways. ATRNL1 influences neuroplasticity through regulating the availability of these neurotrophins thereby modulating cellular responses downstream in neural tissues.

ATRNL1 has been studied in relation to neurodevelopmental disorders and neurodegenerative diseases. In autism spectrum disorders ATRNL1 may influence neuron connectivity and signaling through interactions with regulatory proteins like MECP2. Additionally its altered expression has been noted in Alzheimer’s disease where it may impact amyloid-beta homeostasis alongside proteins such as APP suggesting potential involvement in neural degeneration.
