Supplementary information

AXUD1 also known as C1orf61 is a protein with a molecular mass of approximately 33 kDa. It plays a role in transcription regulation by acting as a transcription factor. AXUD1 gets expressed in various tissues including notable expression in the brain and certain cancer tissues. It controls gene expression by binding to DNA sequences therefore impacting cell behavior and phenotype.
Biological function summary

AXUD1 participates in cellular responses that involve gene expression changes. It is not reported to form part of any multi-protein complex but interacts with other proteins to exert its function. In the nervous system it contributes to neurite outgrowth which is important for neuron development and function. In cancer cells AXUD1 influences processes that regulate cell proliferation migration and differentiation.

Pathways

The action of AXUD1 links to the Wnt signaling pathway and the sonic hedgehog pathway. The protein supports the regulation of gene expression downstream of these pathways influencing cellular growth and differentiation. Within these pathways AXUD1 interacts with beta-catenin in Wnt signaling facilitating transcriptional activation of target genes. The role in the sonic hedgehog pathway remains less defined but suggests involvement in cell fate determination.

AXUD1 has connections to cancer and neurological disorders. Altered expression levels of AXUD1 appear in several cancer types including glioblastoma and breast cancer suggesting its role in tumor progression. AXUD1 influences cancer by interacting with proteins like p53 a well-known tumor suppressor. Additionally in neurological disorders disruptions in AXUD1 expression or function may contribute to conditions like neurodegenerative diseases affecting proteins involved in neuronal survival and repair.
