Positive staining on human cerebrum. The section was incubated with ab314130 for 30 mins at room temperature. The immunostaining was performed on a Leica Biosystems BOND® RX instrument. Biological function summary
The enzyme contributes to the synthesis of complex gangliosides. B4GALNT1 does not work alone; instead it integrates into a system of glycosylation pathways involving other glycosyltransferases forming a complex network that tailors the composition of glycan structures on lipids and proteins. This activity influences cell recognition adhesion and signaling processes important for neurodevelopment and synapse formation.
Pathways
B4GALNT1 influences the ganglioside biosynthetic pathway an important aspect for proper neuronal function. This pathway involves collaboration with other proteins such as GM2 synthase which cooperates in the addition of sugar residues at various stages of glycolipid formation.
