Activity summary

Mouse IgG2a also known as immunoglobulin G subclass 2a is an antibody isotype found in mice. It plays an essential role in the immune response by recognizing and binding antigens. IgG2a has a molecular mass of approximately 150 kDa. It is predominantly expressed in plasma cells and can be found in the serum. This antibody class is frequently used in immunological research to study immune system function in mouse models.

Biological function summary

IgG2a performs an important role in mediating antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) and complement activation. It is part of the immunoglobulin complex and is important for targeting viral and bacterial pathogens. Mouse IgG2a antibodies engage Fc receptors on effector cells such as natural killer cells and macrophages initiating immune response and promoting the clearance of pathogens.

Pathways

This antibody isotype actively participates in humoral immunity pathways. The Fc gamma receptor pathway is particularly important as it facilitates effector functions like phagocytosis and ADCC. IgG2a shares pathways with related proteins including other immunoglobulin subclasses like IgG1 influencing these immune mechanisms in different but complementary ways.

Associated diseases and disorders

Mouse IgG2a is relevant in autoimmune disease models and infectious disease research. Its role is significant in conditions like lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis where pathogenic antibody production occurs. IgG2a along with other immunoglobulin subclasses interacts with proteins like cytokines which influence disease progression and immune regulation.
