Biological function summary
BYSL is essential for the assembly of the 90S preribosome a precursor complex pivotal to eukaryotic ribosome biogenesis. It acts alongside other nucleolar proteins to support the assembly and processing of the 18S rRNA necessary for the small ribosomal subunit. Without proper function of BYSL cells experience defects in ribosomal assembly affecting overall protein synthesis.
Pathways
BYSL functions integrally in the ribosome biogenesis pathway a central component of cellular growth and proliferation. It works closely with proteins like NOP58 and UTP18 forming part of the U3 ribonucleoprotein complex essential for early pre-rRNA processing. Another significant pathway is the nucleolar processing of Pre-47S rRNA where BYSL directs ribosome maturation processes ensuring efficient synthesis and cell growth.
