Activity summary

CCNDBP1 also known as Cyclin D1 binding protein 1 is a protein that has a molecular mass of approximately 38 kDa. It performs critical mechanical functions by binding to cyclin D1 and affects the regulation of the cell cycle. This protein is widely expressed in multiple tissues but is especially found in organs such as the liver kidney and heart. Its presence in these organs indicates its important role across various functional domains within the body.

Biological function summary

CCNDBP1 shows involvement in cell cycle regulation and modulation of transcription activities. It functions as a negative regulator of cell proliferation. Despite not being part of any large protein complexes it does influence gene expression through its interaction with cyclin D1 which in turn adjusts the progression of the cell cycle. Its activity suggests a role in controlling the timely and orderly progression of various cell cycle phases.

Pathways

CCNDBP1 is an important player in cell cycle and transcription regulation. It significantly influences the Cyclin D1-CDK4/6 pathway which is important for cell cycle G1/S transition. The interaction with cyclin D1 links CCNDBP1 to the MAPK/ERK signaling pathway highlighting its importance in signal transduction processes and stress response. These connections suggest it indirectly interacts with other proteins such as CDK4 and CDK6 through its regulatory effects on cyclin D1.

Associated diseases and disorders

Researchers have linked CCNDBP1 to certain cancers like hepatocellular carcinoma and breast cancer. Its role as a negative regulator of cyclin D1 impacts tumor progression and proliferation. In hepatocellular carcinoma CCNDBP1 exhibits downregulated expression. Similarly in breast cancer disruptions in cyclin D1 modulation caused by CCNDBP1 can lead to uncontrolled cell growth. This connection suggests that CCNDBP1 through cyclin D1 plays a potential role in cancer biology making it a target for therapeutic investigations.
