Immunocytochemistry/ Immunofluorescence - Anti-CDNF antibody [6G5] (AB205551)
Immunofluorescent analysis of U2OS cells labeling CDNF with ab205551 at 1 μg/ml. Goat anti rabbit IgG (Alexa Fluor® 488) was used as the secondary antibody. Counterstained with DAPI (blue).
Left panel : CDNF expressing U2OS cells.
Right panel : Negative control (non-transfected U2OS cells).

Immunohistochemistry (Formalin/PFA-fixed paraffin-embedded sections) - Anti-CDNF antibody [6G5] (AB205551)
Immunohistochemical analysis of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded Human cerebral cortex tissue sections from Alzheimer's disease patients labeling CDNF with ab205551 at 5 μg/ml. Image on the right shows negative staining without primary antibody. Peroxidase/DAB was used for visualization. Sections were counterstained with toluidine blue and mounted with Eukitt mounting medium.

Biological function summary
The protein ensures the survival of neurons by modulating cellular stress pathways. CDNF is not known to be part of a larger protein complex. Instead its activity relies on its own structural configuration to influence stress responses and neuron protection. As a secreted protein it directly interacts with and influences cellular mechanisms within the extracellular space contributing to a healthy neuronal environment.
Pathways
CDNF interacts with at least oxidative stress response pathways and neuroprotection pathways. These pathways underpin its role in counteracting cellular stress related to neurodegeneration. For example CDNF shares a functional connection with proteins like MANF (Mesencephalic Astrocyte-derived Neurotrophic Factor) another neurotrophic factor involved in similar neuroprotective pathways enhancing neuronal survival and recovery from cellular stress.
