Supplementary information

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.

CELSR2 also recognized as cadherin EGF LAG seven-pass G-type receptor 2 is a large approximately 300 kDa protein. It is a member of the cadherin superfamily and functions as a non-classical adhesion GPCR. CELSR2 mediates cell-cell contacts and is integral in maintaining tissue structure. The protein is widely expressed in the brain and across various tissues contributing to its essential role in tissue morphogenesis and cellular signaling.
Biological function summary

CELSR2 influences cell polarity and synaptic development. It plays a role in the planar cell polarity (PCP) signaling pathway. This protein is a part of large protein complexes that are responsible for regulating the orientation and spatial arrangement of cell structures. CELSR2 affects neuronal development and axonal guidance reflecting its significance in the complex neural networks.

Pathways

Research shows that CELSR2 is involved in PCP and Wnt signaling pathways. In these pathways CELSR2 interacts with key proteins such as Frizzled and Dishevelled. These interactions facilitate proper neighborhood cell function by modulating cytoskeletal arrangements and signal transduction processes that are necessary for effective communication and connectivity between cells.

CELSR2 has associations with neurodevelopmental disorders and cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis. Studies show that variations in CELSR2 expression may correlate with lipid metabolism abnormalities influencing cholesterol levels and cardiovascular disease risk. It relates to proteins like SORT1 and APOB coming into play in the pathophysiology of these conditions which highlights its potential as a therapeutic target in managing related diseases.
