Supplementary information

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.

CHCHD2 also known as coiled-coil-helix-coiled-coil-helix domain-containing protein 2 is encoded by the CHCHD2 gene. Weighing approximately 15.5 kDa CHCHD2 is located in the mitochondrial intermembrane space. Expression of CHCHD2 occurs in various tissues with higher levels in the brain and heart. Its mechanical action involves interactions with mitochondrial proteins to help stabilize the structure and function within the cell mitochondria.
Biological function summary

CHCHD2 plays a role in mitochondrial respiratory function and cellular energy metabolism. This protein partners with other mitochondrial proteins forming complexes that maintain mitochondrial integrity and proper energy production. CHCHD2 contributes to processes such as oxidative phosphorylation by interacting with the mitochondrial respiratory chain impacting ATP generation and cellular energy dynamics.

Pathways

Interactions with other proteins such as CHCHD10 position CHCHD2 in significant signaling and energy pathways like the respiratory electron transport chain. CHCHD2's role within oxidative phosphorylation and mitochondrial biogenesis pathways is fundamental. These pathways are central to energy production and are interconnected with other mitochondrial proteins like complex IV members ensuring efficient energy output within cells.

Mutations in CHCHD2 associate with Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative conditions. These mutations can disrupt mitochondrial function leading to energy deficits and cellular stress. CHCHD2 is also linked to proteins involved in neurodegeneration such as alpha-synuclein suggesting a complex interplay that may contribute to the pathogenesis of these diseases. Understanding these associations can inform therapeutic strategies targeting CHCHD2 dysfunctions.
