CHDH also known as choline dehydrogenase functions mechanically as an enzyme that plays an important role in choline metabolism. This enzyme exhibits a molecular mass of approximately 61 kDa. It catalyzes the oxidation of choline to betaine aldehyde converting it further to glycine betaine which influences osmotic stress adaptation. CHDH shows strong expression in kidney and liver tissues indicating its role in these organs.
Biological function summary

The process facilitated by CHDH is essential for synthesizing glycine betaine a critical osmolyte that helps cells combat osmotic stress by stabilizing proteins and cell membranes. CHDH does not operate within a complex but is involved directly as a part of individual reactions leading to glycine betaine formation.
