Supplementary info

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.
Activity summary

Codanin-1 also known as Codanto is a protein encoded by the CDAN1 gene. It has a molecular mass of approximately 144 kDa. Codanin-1 is generally expressed in the nucleus of cells and is especially present in tissues with high rates of cellular proliferation like bone marrow and fetal liver. This protein plays a role in chromatin assembly and cell cycle regulation.

Biological function summary

Codanin-1 interacts with several cellular processes including DNA replication and repair. It forms part of a larger chromatin remodeling complex. This association highlights its influence on maintaining proper chromatin structure and function which is necessary for accurate gene expression and genomic stability. Codanin-1's involvement in the chromatin assembly process is essential for normal cell function.

Pathways

Codanin-1 interacts with processes related to chromatin remodeling and the DNA damage response. It is part of the chromatin assembly factor pathway which facilitates the integration and organization of new histones into chromatin. Codanin-1 is also potentially linked to the nucleosome assembly pathway. It interacts with proteins like ASF1A and ASF1B which are essential for histone chaperoning and nucleosome assembly during DNA replication.

Associated diseases and disorders

Codanin-1 has a strong association with congenital dyserythropoietic anemia type I (CDA I) a rare form of anemia. This condition arises from mutations in the CDAN1 gene causing ineffective erythropoiesis. The Codanin-1 protein links with the hemoglobin subunit proteins during erythroid cell development and plays a critical role in red blood cell maturation. This connection highlights the importance of Codanin-1 in maintaining normal blood cell production and function.
