Activity summary

CTRP2 also known as Complement C1q Tumor Necrosis Factor-Related Protein 2 is a member of the C1q/TNF-related protein family. It has approximately a molecular mass of 25 kDa. This protein is expressed in various tissues including adipose tissue liver and muscle. In the cell it is mostly found in the extracellular region operating outside of the cell membrane. The protein consists of a collagen domain and a C-terminal globular domain which suggest its role in multimeric complex structures with possible functions in cellular signaling.

Biological function summary

CTRP2 influences several metabolic processes. It modulates lipid and glucose metabolism suggesting its role in the regulation of energy homeostasis. CTRP2 interacts with other proteins forming complexes that can trigger signaling pathways related to metabolism. Its influence on metabolic pathways ties it intricately to maintaining nutrient balance and possibly involved in broader hormonal regulation mechanisms.

Pathways

Four words describe the role of CTRP2 in metabolic and signaling pathways. CTRP2 participates in the insulin signaling pathway and AMPK pathway both of which are important for maintaining energy balance in the body. It interacts with proteins such as Adiponectin and CTRP3 which share similar structural and functional characteristics and collectively contribute to the regulation of insulin sensitivity and energy expenditure.

Associated diseases and disorders

CTRP2's link to metabolic conditions is evident. Its dysregulation may contribute to obesity and type 2 diabetes as it plays a significant role in metabolic balance. Obesity for example could alter its expression levels impacting glucose and lipid metabolism. Additionally CTRP2 interacts with proteins like TNF-alpha which is known to play a part in inflammation highlighting possible connections to metabolic syndrome through inflammatory processes.

We have systematically measured KD (the equilibrium dissociation constant between the antibody and its antigen), of more than 840 recombinant antibodies to assess not only their individual KD values but also to see the average affinity of antibody.
Based on the comparison with published literature values for mouse monoclonal antibodies, Recombinant antibodies appear to be on average 1-2 order of magnitude higher affinity.
