CTRP6 also known as C1q/TNF-related protein 6 is a secreted protein that belongs to the C1q/TNF-related protein family. It has a molecular mass of approximately 37 kDa. Expression of CTRP6 occurs in various tissues including adipose tissue skeletal muscle and liver. Its structural components include a collagen-like domain and a C1q globular domain which are characteristic of proteins involved in immune responses and metabolic regulation.
CTRP6 plays a significant role in modulating inflammatory responses and metabolism. It acts by influencing the secretion and activity of cytokines such as IL-6 and TNF-alpha. Although not frequently noted as part of a multi-protein complex CTRP6 interacts closely with signaling molecules to achieve its functions. Studies suggest its involvement in maintaining metabolic balance and regulating insulin sensitivity key processes in various physiological states.
It interacts with several metabolic and inflammatory signaling cascades. This protein mediates effects through pathways like the AMPK signaling pathway which plays an important role in energy balance and metabolic stress responses. CTRP6 is also linked to the TLR4 signaling pathway involved in immune activation and inflammation. These pathways involve interactions with various proteins such as AMPK and TLR4 receptors highlighting its integrative role in cell signaling networks.
CTRP6 shows an association with conditions like obesity and type 2 diabetes. These diseases link to its role in regulating metabolic and inflammatory responses. Dysfunctional CTRP6 expression or activity has been observed in individuals with these metabolic disorders. Additionally CTRP6 relates to the expression and regulation of proteins such as adiponectin and TNF-alpha which are also involved in these disease pathways. These connections emphasize its potential as a therapeutic target for metabolic interventions.
