DHHC-5 also known as zDHHC5 or DHHC5 is a palmitoyltransferase enzyme located primarily in the plasma membrane of cells. It plays an important mechanical role by catalyzing the addition of palmitate to proteins through thioester linkage which is important for regulating protein localization stability and function. DHHC-5 has a molecular weight of approximately 48 kDa. It expresses widely in various tissues with prominent expression in the brain heart and lungs indicating its significance in multiple physiological systems.
