Biological function summary
DHX8/Prp22 plays a critical role in pre-mRNA splicing. It is a component of the spliceosome a large ribonucleoprotein complex responsible for excising introns from pre-mRNA. Within this complex DHX8/Prp22 helps in the transition to the second step of splicing by promoting the release of spliced mRNA and dissociation of proteins and snRNPs. The activity of DHX8/Prp22 ensures proper removal of introns and prevents exon skipping contributing to the fidelity of gene expression.
Pathways
The DHX8/Prp22 is an integral part of the cellular RNA splicing pathway. It connects with the spliceosomal cycle and influences mRNA maturation which is essential for proper gene expression and cellular function.
