EHF also known as Ets homologous factor is a transcription factor within the ETS family featuring a mass of approximately 37 kDa. EHF regulates gene expression by binding to DNA sequences known as ETS motifs and influences the transcriptional processes. It exhibits significant expression in epithelial tissues including the lungs and esophagus indicating its importance in cellular activities within these tissues.
Biological function summary

This protein contributes to the regulation of epithelial cell differentiation and proliferation. EHF is not generally known to be a part of specific protein complexes but works closely with other ETS family transcription factors to exert its effects on target genes. Its influence extends to controlling factors that maintain epithelial integrity and function making it important for normal tissue development and homeostasis.

EHF impacts gene expression involved in the growth signaling and differentiation. It participates chiefly in pathways such as the MAPK/ERK pathway influencing cell cycle regulation and response to growth stimuli. Transcriptional activator that may play a role in regulating epithelial cell differentiation and proliferation. May act as a repressor for a specific subset of ETS/AP-1-responsive genes and as a modulator of the nuclear response to mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling cascades. Binds to DNA sequences containing the consensus nucleotide core sequence GGAA. Involved in regulation of TNFRSF10B/DR5 expression through Ets-binding sequences on the TNFRSF10B/DR5 promoter. May contribute to development and carcinogenesis by acting as a tumor suppressor gene or anti-oncogene.
