EIF4E2 plays a role in mRNA translation regulation. It forms a complex with other initiation factors such as eIF4G but lacks some binding capabilities of its closely related factor eIF4E. EIF4E2 impacts translation repression contributing by silencing specific mRNAs in cell cycles or stress responses. The function of EIF4E2 is necessary for maintaining cellular homeostasis particularly in adapting to environmental or cellular stresses.
