Biological function summary
Embigin is involved in the regulation of cell adhesion and proliferation. It is not generally part of a larger protein complex but acts as a facilitator of cellular interactions particularly during tissue morphogenesis and development. Embigin's role in promoting cell aggregation involves interaction with other cell surface proteins influencing cellular dynamics during development.
Pathways
Embigin plays a role in the integrin signaling pathway. It interacts with integrins which are transmembrane receptors involved in cell adhesion sending signals that regulate the cytoskeleton and the cell cycle. Another pathway related to Embigin's function is the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Through this pathway Embigin indirectly influences cellular survival and growth processes closely interacting with signaling proteins like PI3K.
