Supplementary information

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.

EPSTI1 also known as epithelial stromal interaction 1 is a protein involved in cellular interactions particularly between stromal and epithelial cells. It has a molecular mass of approximately 41 kDa. Humans express EPSTI1 in various tissues with higher levels detected in organs like the placenta lung and immune cells such as macrophages. This distribution suggests that EPSTI1 might play a multifaceted role in tissue homeostasis and immune responses.
Biological function summary

EPSTI1 contributes to cellular processes including cell differentiation immune response modulation and signaling pathways that mediate cell-cell communication. While it is not part of a well-defined protein complex it often associates with proteins involved in transcription regulation and immune signaling cascades. These associations imply that EPSTI1 might regulate gene expression patterns impacting cell behavior.

Pathways

EPSTI1 features prominently in immune and cancer-related signaling. It interacts with pathways such as the interferon response and NF-kB pathway. EPSTI1 affects transcription factors and signaling proteins including STAT1 and STAT3 which play critical roles in mediating immune responses and promoting oncogenesis. EPSTI1's interaction with these pathways highlights its involvement in cellular stress responses and inflammation.

EPSTI1 has links to cancer and autoimmune diseases. Overexpression of EPSTI1 frequently occurs in breast cancer suggesting a role in tumor progression and metastasis. In autoimmune conditions like systemic lupus erythematosus EPSTI1 may alter immune system regulation contributing to chronic inflammation. EPSTI1's interaction with proteins such as STAT1 might drive these pathogenic processes linking the protein to disease etiology.

Target data

Plays a role in M1 macrophage polarization and is required for the proper regulation of gene expression during M1 versus M2 macrophage differentiation (By similarity). Might play a role in RELA/p65 and STAT1 phosphorylation and nuclear localization upon activation of macrophages (By similarity).
