Biological function summary
EYA1 contributes significantly to the formation of several organs during embryonic development. This protein is part of the EYA-SIX transcriptional complex and works closely with SIX family proteins to regulate the expression of multiple key developmental genes. Through its phosphatase activity EYA1 also affects phosphorylated protein substrates altering their function and stability.
Pathways
EYA1 plays an important role in the regulation of the WNT and SHH signaling pathways both of which are fundamental for embryonic development and cell differentiation. EYA1 interacts with related proteins like SIX1 aiding in the transcriptional regulation needed for cellular proliferation and differentiation. Interferences in these pathways can lead to developmental anomalies.
