EYA4 also known as Eyes Absent 4 is a protein involved in several important cellular processes. It has an approximate molecular mass of 64 kDa. This protein acts as a phosphatase removing phosphate groups from specific proteins. EYA4 is expressed in various tissues including the heart brain and kidneys. Its presence in these diverse tissues indicates its importance in multiple cellular functions.
Biological function summary

EYA4 contributes to the DNA damage repair process and is important for normal cellular development and function. The protein exists as part of a transcriptional complex often interacting with other proteins to regulate gene expression. Tyrosine phosphatase that specifically dephosphorylates 'Tyr-142' of histone H2AX (H2AXY142ph). 'Tyr-142' phosphorylation of histone H2AX plays a central role in DNA repair and acts as a mark that distinguishes between apoptotic and repair responses to genotoxic stress. Promotes efficient DNA repair by dephosphorylating H2AX, promoting the recruitment of DNA repair complexes containing MDC1.
