Activity summary

FABP9 also known as FABP9P1 or Testis FABP is a member of the fatty acid binding protein family. It has a molecular mass of approximately 15 kDa. FABP9 plays a role in binding and transporting lipids within cells impacting lipid metabolism and signaling. The protein shows specific expression in testis tissue where it is involved in processes related to reproduction.

Biological function summary

The protein contributes to lipid homeostasis and energy regulation. FABP9 does not form part of a larger complex and it directly interacts with various lipids aiding their transport within cellular compartments. The protein helps maintain the balance of lipid molecules required for cell membrane integrity and signal transduction across diverse biological functions.

Pathways

Fatty acid transport and energy metabolism represent important areas where FABP9 functions. The protein participates in the lipid transport pathway facilitating the movement of fatty acids in cellular membranes and compartments. Through its lipid-binding action FABP9 is involved in metabolic pathways alongside proteins such as FABP1 and FABP4 which share similar lipid-binding roles.

Associated diseases and disorders

Research links FABP9 to specific conditions affecting testicular function. Alterations in FABP9 activity or expression levels may connect to infertility or other reproductive disorders. The protein has associations with FABP4 in the context of metabolic diseases hinting at potential implications in systemic lipid metabolism disorders. Research continues to evaluate FABP9's broader roles in reproductive and metabolic health.
