Supplementary information

The protein known as FATE1 also called "fetal and adult testis expressed 1" is involved in cellular mechanics by participating in cell survival processes. This protein has a molecular mass of approximately 23 kDa. You can find FATE1 mainly expressed in testis tissue but it is also observed in certain tumors. Its expression in tumors makes it a target of interest for cancer research. FATE1 plays a role in the regulation of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and mitochondria interactions influencing cellular homeostasis.
Biological function summary

FATE1 contributes to cancer cell survival by regulating apoptosis and cell proliferation. It does not function as part of a larger protein complex. Instead it acts independently to modulate the apoptotic pathways. By interacting with the mitochondria-associated membranes FATE1 influences calcium signaling which impacts cell viability and response to stress. This role in apoptosis regulation makes it an area of focus in the study of cancer progression and metastasis.

Pathways

Scientists have observed FATE1 in its relationship with the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway as well as its involvement in calcium signaling pathways. It interacts with proteins such as Bcl-2 which are regulators of apoptosis. The connection of FATE1 to these pathways highlights its central role in maintaining mitochondrial function and integrity which are important for cell survival and adaptation under stress conditions.

Researchers associate FATE1 with certain types of cancer particularly testicular cancer and some other malignancies through its expression in tumor cells. FATE1 expression has shown correlation with cancer progression and poor prognosis making it a potential biomarker and therapeutic target. Additionally its dysregulation can interact with the protein p53 a well-known tumor suppressor suggesting a functional relationship that could influence tumor growth and response to treatment.

Target data

Involved in the regulation of endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-mitochondria coupling. Negatively regulates the ER-mitochondria distance and Ca(2+) transfer from ER to mitochondria possibly implicating it in the regulation of apoptosis (PubMed : 27402544). May collaborate with RNF183 to restrain BIK protein levels thus regulating apoptotic signaling (PubMed : 26567849).
