FBXL3 also known as F-box and leucine-rich repeat protein 3 acts as part of the protein complex responsible for targeted degradation of other proteins. It has a molecular mass of approximately 46 kDa and plays its role mainly in the nucleus. Researchers have found FBXL3 expressed in multiple tissues including the brain indicating its widespread biological importance. This protein forms part of the Skp Cullin F-box containing complex (SCF complex) which functions in regulating the degradation of proteins via ubiquitination.
Biological function summary

FBXL3 participates in the regulation of circadian rhythms controlling the degradation of specific clock proteins like CRY1 and CRY2. These proteins along with FBXL3 form part of the SCF complex. By targeting CRY proteins for degradation FBXL3 influences the stability and timing of the molecular clock. This role underlines FBXL3's importance in maintaining daily physiological rhythms that affect behavior and biologic processes.
