Supplementary information

FBXO28 also known as F-box only protein 28 is an important component of the SCF (Skp1-Cullin-F-box) ubiquitin ligase complex. The molecular mass of FBXO28 is approximately 44 kDa. This protein is expressed in various tissues with noted expression in the brain and heart. As an F-box protein FBXO28 plays an important role in targeting proteins for ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation.
Biological function summary

FBXO28 functions in regulating cell cycle progression and gene expression. It interacts with specific substrates labeling them for degradation and playing a part in the cell's quality control system. FBXO28 associates as part of the SCF complex which consists of Skp1 Cullin and Rbx1 proteins and helps mediate protein turnover. This protein is key in maintaining cellular homeostasis by eliminating damaged or unneeded proteins.

Pathways

Scientists have identified FBXO28's involvement in the regulation of cell cycle and transcription pathways. It influences the stability of cell cycle regulators linking its activity with the proteasome pathway. FBXO28 also associates with the RNA polymerase II transcription machinery helping control gene expression. Relationships with proteins like CDK1 and Cyclin D mirror its part in cycle control and interactions within transcription pathways highlight its regulatory roles.

Research connects FBXO28 to oncogenic processes particularly in certain cancers due to its regulatory function in cell proliferation. Misregulation of FBXO28 may promote tumor growth revealing its link to cancer pathogenesis. Studies also suggest a possible association with neurological disorders potentially through its expression in brain tissue and interactions with proteins involved in neural pathways raising interest in its broader implications in neurodegenerative diseases.
