FBXO30 also known as F-box only protein 30 is a member of the F-box protein family which are part of E3 ubiquitin ligase complexes. This protein is approximately 55 kDa in mass. It contains the F-box motif allowing it to interact with other proteins involved in ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis. FBXO30 is expressed in various tissues with notable levels in the brain testis and certain cancer cells. It participates in the protein degradation pathway by targeting specific proteins for ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation.
Biological function summary

FBXO30 functions in ubiquitin-proteasome-mediated protein degradation. It forms part of the SCF (SKP1-CUL1-F-box) complex which is important for substrate recognition and catalysis of ubiquitination. Through this complex FBXO30 regulates the abundance of proteins that control cell cycle signal transduction and apoptosis. By modulating these processes FBXO30 helps maintain cellular homeostasis and influences various cellular responses to environmental stimuli.

Pathways

FBXO30 plays a role in several cellular regulatory pathways. The ubiquitin-proteasome system in which FBXO30 is involved is integral to the cell cycle and Wnt signaling pathways. This system ensures timely degradation of cyclins which are critical for cell cycle progression. Moreover in the Wnt signaling pathway FBXO30 helps regulate the stability of proteins like β-catenin. Any dysregulation in these pathways can lead to aberrant cell proliferation and other cellular dysfunctions.

FBXO30 has associations with cancer progression and neurodegenerative diseases. Aberrant expression of FBXO30 may lead to uncontrolled proliferation of cancer cells linking it to proteins like cyclins and Wnt pathway components which are important for tumor development. Additionally FBXO30 may contribute to neuronal degradation processes observed in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease by impacting proteins involved in neuronal health and survival. Its regulation of these proteins underlines its role in maintaining normal cellular function and preventing disease.
