Supplementary information

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.

FRA2 also known as FOSL2 is a member of the activator protein-1 (AP-1) transcription factor family. It exhibits a molecular mass of approximately 35 kDa. This protein shows expression in various tissues including epithelial and immune cells. FRA2 functions by forming heterodimers with Jun family members influencing gene transcription regulation by binding to DNA at specific AP-1 sites.
Biological function summary

FRA2 plays a significant role in cellular processes such as differentiation proliferation and apoptosis. It is an integral part of the AP-1 transcription factor complex which regulates the expression of genes linked to cell cycle and stress responses. FRA2 impacts extracellular matrix production and remodeling highlighting its involvement in tissue development and repair.

Pathways

FRA2 participates in the MAPK signaling pathway an important cascade influencing cell fate decisions. Through this pathway it interacts with proteins like MAPK and ERK which facilitate the transmission of signals from receptors on the cell surface to the DNA in the nucleus. FRA2's participation in the TGF-beta pathway also highlights its role in regulating gene expression associated with growth and differentiation.

FRA2 links to conditions such as cancer and pulmonary fibrosis. It interacts with proteins like Smad3 and Smad4 in the context of cancer progression where it can influence tumor growth and metastasis. In pulmonary fibrosis FRA2 influences fibroblast activation and collagen production contributing to the pathological tissue remodeling seen in the disease.
