Biological function summary
Frizzled class receptor 9 functions in cellular communication and development. It does not operate alone but often forms complexes with co-receptors like LDL receptor-related protein 5/6 (LRP5/6). Through these complexes it transmits signals important for various cellular functions such as proliferation differentiation and migration. Frizzled 9’s signaling affects cellular processes contributing significantly to maintaining normal cellular homeostasis.
Pathways
Frizzled receptor 9 participates in the Wnt/β-catenin signaling and the planar cell polarity (PCP) pathway. In the Wnt/β-catenin pathway frizzled 9 interacts with proteins such as β-catenin and Dishevelled (Dvl) leading to gene expression changes. In the PCP pathway frizzled 9 contributes to the regulation of cellular orientation within tissues. Through these pathways frizzled 9 plays a role in cell fate determination and tissue patterning making it an important component in organismal development and disease.
